Moppa || Barossa Valley
Shiraz 100%
15% Alc
45 Years Old Vine

The grapes were fermented in small batches and after fermentation was matured in 50% new French oak for 20 months prior to bottling. Minimal intervention is used in the winemaking process and the wine is moved the minimal times prior to bottling and is not cold stabilised or filtered.

The fleshy textured 2022 Shiraz Moppa SR806 is the most elegant and approachable of this year's Eisenstone releases. It opens with charming dark cherry and mulberry aromas with subtle earthy tones before opening out into a mid-weight style supported by supple, integrated tannins with excellent drinkability over the short to medium term.

  • Stephen Cook has completed more than 25 vintage as a senior winemaker for some of Australia's best known wine brands. He established Eisenstone as his personal wine project with an ambition to present a portfolio of Barossa Shiraz that showcased the rich diversity of its sub regions and the exceptional qualities of the landscape as a home of world class Shiraz.

    Our aim is to establish ourselves as specialists of Barossa Valley shiraz, the icon variety of the Barossa Valley which is recognised worldwide.

    The powerful and long-lived Shiraz originating from the northern reaches of the Barossa Valley rightfully belong among the great regional wine statements of the world. Working directly with owners of prized vineyards, each vintage at Eisenstone yields a portfolio of limited release wines that individually capture the nuanced character of a single vineyard, or a particular sub region. Collectively, the ambition for these wines is to represent an authorative reference point for exceptional Barossa Valley Shiraz.

    Celebrating the rich German heritage of the Barossa Valley, the name Eisenstone comes from a blend of the German word for iron - Eisen and the English - Stone. Our name celebrates the Ironstone soils in which the vines grow and the stone used by the original German settlers to build much of the famous Barossa buildings that still stand to this very day. Within the Valley there are a number of recognised sub regions that vary in climate and soil type and bring out subtle differences in the variety. Eisenstone creator and winemaker Stephen Cook secures special parcels of grapes from the ‘western ranges’ of the famous Barossa Valley which are renowned for producing fuller bodied, powerful wines with amazing depth of flavour and exceptional aging ability to make his wines released under the Eisenstone label. Limited volumes of each wine are produced in any given vintage, each individually numbered.
